How a conference created an outdoor block party for their attendees in New Orleans

New Orleans is a vibrant and eclectic city with lots of music, good food, and good people. When visiting New Orleans, the beautiful colors, lush plants, and interesting architecture are always around you. These elements create great surroundings for outdoor events and conferences (no wonder it will be the 11th time the Super Bowl is hosted in this city). On top of that, the warm climate is an advantage, especially during the spring, when it might still be freezing up north.

This past November, This Is Beyond produced its first conference in New Orleans called SET (Specialists in Entertainment). The conference, which took place at the Sugar Mill, celebrates the intersection of entertainment and travel and promotes industry pros to connect and collaborate. It includes 3 days of Networking, leadership sessions, and top-tier entertainment.

The Sugar Mill has 25,000 square feet of indoor space and 15,000 square feet of beautiful landscaped courtyard, making it a great venue for events. It can host large functions like concerts, conferences, and conventions and has an authentic historic vibe: once operated as a sugar holding facility, it stays true to its warehouse roots with original steel I-beams and exposed brick on the interior.

For the conference's final day, the organizers transformed the venue's outdoor courtyard into an outdoor Block party with the city's best street food, curated cocktails, and an epic lineup of live music featuring Nola's favorite performers. Instead of string lights (since it was a day event), stripes of fabric in the conference colors were hanging across the venue, and custom scaffolding structures displayed colorful signage.

To create places for attendees to sit, our team deliverred and installed our colorful pallet lounges. The Sideline view configuration was installed along the landscaped wall, allowing guests to sit and mingle next to the lush background, sipping cocktails served from a vintage truck (Tap Truck Nola).

The Island pallet lounges were added in front of the sideline view, allowing guests to talk to each other while others could face the stage and enjoy the live music.

Overall, the music, food, blue sky, and the pallet furniture created a welcoming environment that allowed for natural socializing and connections between guests.
